Fishing on the Upper Verde River, Arizona

Image via Wikipedia

Brian and I drove to Beasely flats yesterday to view a put-in area for kayaks and tubes. A lone fisherman was casting his line into the very green Verde River. We drove along Salt Mine Road, and I had a picture in my mind of old western movies where sun-parched cowboys would find a watering hole in the desert, only to find the water undrinkable because of the saline. It’s easy to see the salt on the rocks along the road. The drive was lush with green–manzanitas and other low shrubs and trees I have yet to learn the names of. Beasely flats is a picturesque spot for a picnic. Lot’s of sounds of wildlife in a remote but accessible location.
